The Old Town, the Jewish Quarter and Charles Bridge
.jpg?width=250)
Worth knowing: Start at the Powder Tower and the Municipal House, continue to Old Town Square and the Astronomical Clock, then the Jewish Quarter. The Jewish Museum's synagogues and the Old Jewish Cemetery are closed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays. End at the Clementinum and Charles Bridge, at its best towards evening. In the evening, a cruise on the Vltava rounds the day off.
Prague Castle and Malá Strana

Worth knowing: Go up to the castle early, while the queues are short. The castle courtyards are free to wander; most of the buildings need a ticket. After Golden Lane, walk down the Old Castle Stairs into Malá Strana, to Lesser Town Square, the Lennon Wall and Kampa Island. By Kampa, on the riverbank, is the Franz Kafka Museum.
Wenceslas Square, the Dancing House and Vyšehrad

Worth knowing: Start at Wenceslas Square and the National Museum at its top, walk down to Charles Square and the Dancing House, then along the Vltava to the Vyšehrad fortress: the cemetery where Dvořák and Smetana rest, the basilica and a view over the river. From the Dancing House the National Theatre is in sight to the north, on the riverbank.
Petřín Hill, Strahov Monastery and Letná Park
Worth knowing: Ride the funicular up Petřín from Újezd or walk up the garden paths, climb the lookout tower, and walk along the hill to Strahov Monastery and its famous library. Then on to the Loreta, round the back of the castle to Letná Park and its view of the Vltava bridges, and down into the Jewish Quarter.
Vinohrady, Žižkov and Kafka's grave
Worth knowing: Prague's handsome residential quarters: in the morning the New Jewish Cemetery, where Franz Kafka is buried, and Olšany Cemetery; then the Žižkov TV tower with David Černý's crawling babies, and in the evening Náměstí Míru in Vinohrady. The Jewish cemetery is closed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays.
